Hope Police Department Lieutenant Jim Bush said this morning that Paul Michael Naas, 49, of Hope, was riding a large three-wheeled tricycle in the vicinity of the intersection of Patmos Road and 24th Street shortly before 10 p.m. when the accident occurred.
Bush said L. L. Webb, 91, of Hope, was traveling northbound on Patmos Road in a 2009 GMC pickup truck at the time of the accident.
“He advised that he struck an unknown object, and that when he turned around, he noticed a man and a tricycle lying on the road near the ditch,” Bush said. “He advised that he never saw him.”
Bush said Naas was airlifted to St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana by LifeNet for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. His condition was not available at press time Wednesday.
Bush said evidence at the scene indicated that damage to the right front corner panel of Webb's vehicle and that Naas' tricycle was lying on the right side of the roadway, according to HPD Officer Greg Harper, who investigated the accident.
Bush said no citations were issued as a result of the accident.
