SPARKMAN - The Blevins senior and junior high Hornets basketball teams defeated the Sparkman Raiders Tuesday night, January 19 for class 1A conference play on the road. The junior Hornets dominated the Raiders 50-23 and the senior high Hornets pulled away with a 13-point victory over Sparkman, 72-59. Blevins will be back in action hoop action tonight on the road to face Wickes with game time set for 6 p.m.
In junior high boys action, the Hornets led early in the first quarter, 19-7 then taking a 32-11 advantage over Sparkman at halftime.
In the third, the Hornets increased their lead to 41-15 and finished off the Raiders in the fourth quarter for a 50-23 victory.
In the game, Javar Jordan led the Hornets scoring in double-figures with 19 points, Trevon Stevenson 10 points, Quez Lloyd seven points, Danny McClay six points, Christian Dougan, John Allen, David Scott and Jake Montgomery all had two points a piece.
In senior high boys action, the Hornets jumped to a 18-11 first quarter lead, then led in the second quarter, 35-26 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Hornets out-scored the Raiders 15-13 for a 50- 39 lead at the close of the third. In the final quarter, the Hornets put up 22 points to go on for a 72-59 win over the Raiders. With the victory the Hornets are 16-8 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
In the game, Quintin Fields and Vance Williamson led the Hornets scoring in double-figures with 17 points a piece. Williamson also was 13 of 15 from the free-throw line. Jalen Turner scored 15 points, Antonio Finlay had 10 points, Shantel Staggers eight points, JaCody Horton and Chris Pine each had two points a piece.
