HOPE – The Hope Bobcats concluded their spring football practice Friday, May 21 with a scrimmage at Hammons Stadium. Several people filled up the home stands to watch the Bobcats in action. Bobcat head coach Jay Turley along with the coaching staff worked with the players on fundamentals of football offensively and defensively.
Turley was very excited about the Bobcats taking action for the scrimmage game and observing their performance. Turley thought the Bobcats did a good job during spring football practice and the scrimmage on both sides of the ball. He looks forward to the upcoming season in August and having a successful season.
“We have been getting all our offenses and defenses going to prepare in the fall. We have five running plays and working on defense that I feel will help us be successful. On offense, we've been working inside and outside with our lineman. They had a pretty good spring, did a good job on Friday, and I think they'll continue to get better. Defensively, coaches have kept things basic for the kids and look to put more stuff when fall comes,” said Turley.
According to Turley, he enjoyed working with the coaches and they are still trying to fit everybody at the right positions. During the off-season, Turley worked with the Bobcats on their conditioning and felt the heat was a factor in the scrimmage game. He feels they will have to be mentally tough to compete for the upcoming season.
Turley saw some things during spring football they will have to work out and improve. He feels the Bobcats have athleticism and a mentality for toughness to out work their opponents to get to the championship level. He wants the kids to comment and be dedicated to make the football team better. He also had some Bobcats suffer some key injuries during the spring football, but they'll be ready to go in August.
Turley is enjoying working with the kids and the coaching staff and looks forward to building up the school tradition of winning at Hope.
“Im loving the experience with the kids responding well. They are excited about this coming season and working well with each other. I'm enjoying Hope and the people. I look forward to the season and more seasons to come,” said Turley.
“I'm enjoying the coaching staff. They are working hard and doing everything I ask of them. This will be a good staff to work with,” said Turley.
