Emmet faces Ouachita in hoop action

EMMET - The Emmet High School Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball teams took action against the Ouachita Warriors and Lady Warriors in hoop action at home. The Eagles fought hard but fell short to the Warriors, 60-47 and the Lady Eagles were defeated by the Lady Warriors, 57-25.

For senior girls action, in the first quarter, the Lady Eagles put up nine points, but the Lady Warriors scored 17 points. Heading into the second quarter, the Lady Eagles kept their game up scoring seven points and the Lady Warriors matched them with 16 points. At halftime, Ouachita led Emmet, 33-16.

In the third quarter, the Lady Warriors went on a big run out-scoring the Lady Eagles, but in the fourth, Emmet and Ouachita each had four points. Ouachita went on to victory over the Lady Eagles in conference play.

In the game, Destiny Whitney led scoring for the Lady Eagles with nine points, Whitney Lambert had eight points, and Crystal Tom six points.

In senior boys action, the Eagles and the Warriors kept the game close early in the first half. In first quarter action, the Warriors took a 15-11 led over the Eagles. In the second, the Eagles out-scored the Warriors 16-14, then at halftime, Emmet only trailed by a deuce to the Warriors, 29-27.

In the third quarter, the Eagles once again out-scored the Warriors 13-11 and at the close both teams were tied 40-40.

In the fourth, the Eagles looked to close out the Warriors with help from the home crowd. The Warriors would build momentum and out-score the Eagles 20-7, and Ouachita went on to victory over Emmet, 60-47.

In the game, Ryan Whitney led scoring in double-figures for the Eagles with a big 24 points, and Lavonte McKinney dropped 17 points.
