NEVADA - The Emmet High School Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball teams took action against Nevada Blue Jays and Lady Jays for class 1A conference action. The Eagles played hard but fell short to the Blue Jays 58-43 and the Lady Eagles were defeated by the Lady Jays, 84-24.
In senior boys action, the Eagles fell behind early in the first quarter with Nevada taking a 14-3 lead. In the second quarter, the Eagles fought back hard but the Blue Jays out-scored them 15-14 and at halftime, Nevada led Emmet, 29-17. In the third quarter, the Eagles kept fighting scoring 11 points and the Blue Jays matched them scoring 16 points. At the end of the third, Nevada led Emmet, 45-28.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles out-scored the Blue Jays 15-13, but the Nevada would have the edge of the night going on to win 58-43.
In the game, Ryan Whitney led the Eagles scoring in double-figures with 15 points, Lavonte McKinney had 14 points and Cody Cox added six points.
For senior girls action, Whitney Lambert led the Lady Eagles scoring in double-figures with 14 points, Destiny Whitney had seven points and Caitlin Freeman had two points.
In the Southwest tournament in Saratoga last week, the Eagles went up against the Wickes Warriors but fell short, 47-43. In first quarter action, the Eagles kept the contest close trailing the Warriors 11-8.
In the second quarter, the Warriors out-scored the Eagles 16-7 and at halftime, Emmet trailed Wickes 27-15.
In the third quarter, the Eagles begin to march their way back into the game out-scoring the Warriors 12-8 and cut their deficit to eight points, 35-27 at the close of the quarter.
In the fourth, the Eagles controlled the tempo to out-score the Warriors 16-12, but Wickes would go on to win against Emmet.
In the game, McKinney led the Eagles scoring in double-figures with 17 points, Ryan Whitney had 15 points, and Tyler Welch added five points.
