TEXARKANA – The Hope Wildcats American Legion baseball team competed in the Texarkana Indian American Legion tournament Friday-Sunday June 18-20 winning two of three games.
In the first game on Friday, the Wildcats shutout the Bayou Bombers from Monroe, Louisiana 3-0. Hunter Halliday pitched the shutout game for the Wildcats having four strike outs.
He faced 24 batters and threw 67 pitches from the mound.In the second game, the Wildcats fell short to Little Rock Continental 4-0. Ryan Huntze pitched for the Wildcats and faced 33 batters. He had seven strike outs and threw 120 pitches from the mound.
The Wildcats team had a total of seven hits. In the final game of the tournament for Hope, the Wildcats defeated Ardmore, Oklahoma 17-11.
The Wildcats had three pitchers which were Dillon Gore, Jon Michael Cunningham and Oree Bradley Jr. Bradley closed the game out at the mound. The Wildcats had a total of 15 hits and tied for first place in pool play.
The tournament consisted of 16 teams grouped into four different pools.
Games were played on three fields in Texarkana which was; Texas High, Pleasant Grove, and Arkansas High School fields. Hope Wildcats coach J.R. Wilson said the kids played well and their pitching was great. Wilson also commented that the team is improving on their batting and pitching.
The Wildcats currently stand with a 6-9 record.
