The Blevins jr. Hornets took care of business over the weekend as they competed in the 1A-7 Central junior high district tournament held at Ouachita High School Gymnasium.
The jr. Hornets defeated Stephens on last Thursday night to advance to the finals for a tough and intensive championship showdown against the Nevada jr. Blue Jays.
The jr. Hornets excelled big defeating the jr. Blue Jays 36-23 in the finals to be crowned 2011-12 district tournament champs.
This would be the jr. Hornets fourth consecutive tournament won this season after winning the Blevins Invitational, Genoa Central tourney and the DeQueen Winter Invitational.
In the district finals game, the jr. Hornets and the Blue Jays kept their match-up close in the early going being knotted at 6-6 ending first quarter action.
In the second, the jr. Hornets built some momentum out-scoring Nevada 11-5 as Blevins had a 17-11 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the jr. Hornets put up 19 points and Nevada scored 12 points.
The jr. Hornets would go on to defeat the jr. Blue Jays by 13 points and win the district with a outstanding 27-1 overall record.
In the game, jr. Hornets' Thomas Turner and Adrian Henson led scoring each with eight points apiece.
For Nevada, Kardareous Coleman led scoring with nine points.
In the last two seasons, the jr. Hornets are 51-2 overall under head coach Scott Kelton.
