Hornets finish third in regionals

 SOUTH SIDE BEE BRANCH- The Blevins Hornets finished regional basketball tourney last week held at South Side Bee Branch. The Hornets faced Mt. Vernon-Enola in the semifinals but fell short, 58-47, but defeated Poyen in the consolation game 61-44.

For regional action in the semifinals, the Hornets fell behind early in the first quarter, 25-10. In the second quarter, the Hornets out-scored Mt. Vernon 12-9 but trailed at halftime, 34-22. In the third quarter, the Hornets out-scored Mt. Vernon, 15-14, but trailed 48-37. In the fourth, both teams matched each other scoring 10 points a piece, but Mt. Vernon went on to victory.

In the game, Vance Williamson led the Hornets scoring in double-figures with 15 points, Quintin Fields had 10 points, Jalen Turner scored nine points, JaCody Horton four points, Chris Pine and Shantel Staggers each had two points a piece.

In the consolation game, the Hornets fell behind early in the first quarter 7-13, but out-scored Poyen in the second quarter 16-7. At halftime, the Hornets trailed Poyen 30-23. In the third quarter, the Hornets chopped their way back out-scoring Poyen 16-14 and cut their deficit to five points, 44-39 at the closde of the third. In the fourth, the Hornets put up 22 points and went on to defeat Poyen.

In the game, Pine led the Hornets scoring in double-figures with 16 poimts, Fields scored 13 points, Fields scored 13 points, Turner and Antonio Finlay each scored eight points a piece. Staggers and Horton each had four points a piece.
