CARLISLE – The Spring Hill Lady Bears basketball team made their first ever state tournament appearance Wednesday for a chance to compete for a state title in first round action in the class 2A state basketball tourney held at Carlisle.
The Lady Bears fought hard against the Hartford Lady Beavers but fell short 51-36. The loss would end the Lady Bears season and with a 20-10 overall record.
Despite the defeat, the Lady Bears had a great season making Spring Hill High School history for women's basketball qualifying to compete in the state tournament. Head coach Laura Kidd will have some returning starters and players for next season that will help the team make another run for a state title.
In game action, the Lady Beavers jumped ahead over the Lady Bears 11-5 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Lady Bears out-scored the Lady Beavers 12-10, with Spring Hill cutting their deficit at halftime, trailing Hartford, 21-17.
In the third quarter, the Lady Bears put up 12 points with the Lady Beavers taking a 37-29 lead to close the third quarter. In the fourth, the Lady Bears fought tough to score seven points, but the Lady Beavers would go on to victory to out-score Spring Hill ending their season.
In the game, Karleigh Creech the Lady Bears scoring in double-figures with 13 points, Suzie Gresham scored 12 points, Lauren Kidd had eight points, Haylee Fincher two points and Kelli Worthey chipped in a point.
The Lady Bears will regroup in the off season and getting ready for another exciting season of basketball for next year.
