LITTLE ROCK – The Hope junior varsity Bobcats and varsity Ladycats soccer teams split victories against the Little Rock Mills Comets and Lady Comets soccer teams on the road Monday, March 8. The Bobcats defeated the Comets 4-2 and the Ladycats fell short to the Lady Comets 4-0. The varsity Bobcats opened 5A Southwest Conference action Tuesday against the Pulaski Robinson Senators.

The Bobcats and Ladycats will continue conference play with the Ladycats at home Friday against the Lakeside Rams and Lady Rams. This will be the Ladycats first conference battle this Friday. Game time is set for 5 p.m.

In junior varsity boys action Monday in Little Rock, Jimmy Newman scored a goal in the 27:00 mark assisted by Juan Arroyo. Jose Martinez scored two goals at the 24:00 mark assisted by Newman and at the 32:00 mark assisted by Arroyo, who scored at the 60:00 mark to close out the game.

Head coach Rusty Winfield thought the Bobcats and Ladycats fought hard against Little Rock Mills. Winfield said they had some players out and lack some leadership on the field in the girls game, but they worked hard. He felt the boys played hard and stepped up defensively and offensively to pull out their victory and sweep the Comets in the season series for non-conference play.
