ASHDOWN – The Hope Ladycats continued softball play this past weekend dominating the Ashdown tournament winning three games to improve their record to 5-0 for the start of the 2010 season. On Friday, March 5 the Ladycats defeated Linden Kildare 10-1 in four innings. On Saturday, March 6 the Ladycats defeated the Arkansas High Lady Razorbacks 14-2 in five innings. This was the second time the Ladycats defeated the Lady Razorbacks this year. With the win, the Ladycats would advance to the finals to face Mt. Pleasant and won 7-3 in seven innings.
The Ladycats would go on to win the 2010 Ashdown tournament and remain undefeated this season. The Ladycats is scheduled to return back to action Thursday on the road to face the Foreman Lady Gators at 5 p.m. On Friday, the Ladycats open 5A Southwest Conference play at home against Pulaski Academy with game time set for 5 p.m. at Ladycat Stadium.
In game action on Friday, March 5 the Ladycats recorded 10 runs off seven hits, and Linden recorded 1 run off two hits.
Stephanie Winfield pitched for the Ladycats having four strikeouts. In the first inning, Chelsee Cornelius doubled, Malloree Butler and Winfield each scored with Hope leading 2-0.
In the third inning, Malloree Butler doubled and scored, Cornelius scored, Shantae Henry singled and scored, and Jami Godwin scored. The Ladycats led Liden 4-1.
In the fourth inning, Malloree Butler singled, Allen White scored, Bateman scored, Winfield singled and scored and Cornelius hit a homerun. The Ladycats went on to defeat Linden 10-1.
In game action action on Saturday, March 6 the Ladycats faced the Lady Razorbacks in the first game of the day. The Ladycats recorded 14 runs off 14 hits and the Lady Razorbacks had two runs off five hits. Godwin pitched for the Ladycats having five strikeouts.
For game action, in the first inning, Bateman doubled and Winfield singled. The game was scoreless at the end of the first inning. In the second inning, the Lady Razorbacks scored in the second inning to led Hope 1-0. In the third inning the Lady Razorbacks scored again to lead Hope 2-0.
In the fourth inning, Winfield singled, Cornelius scored, Godwin doubled and scored twice. Henry scored twice and hit a homerun. Adriana Rivera singled, White singled and scored, Malloree Butler scored, Bateman singled and scored and Marlee Butler scored. The Ladycats recored 11 runs off nine hits to led Arkansas high 11-2.
In the fifth inning, Taryn Worthey singled and scored, Malloree Butler singled and scored Marlee Butler scored, and Cornelius singled. The Ladycats would go on to defeat Arkansas High 14-2.
In the finals, the Ladycats recorded seven runs off nine hits and Mt. Pleasant had three runs off four hits. In game action, Winfield pitched for the Ladycats having four strikeouts. In the first inning, Bateman singled and scored, Winfield singled and scored, Godwin tripled and Cornelius scored. The Ladycats led Mt. Pleasant 3-0. In the second inning, White singled and scored, Winfield hit a homerun and Marlee Butler scored with the Ladycat recording three runs off two hits leading Mt. Pleasant 6-0. In the third inning, Godwin singled, but Mt. Pleasant scored three runs and the Ladycats led 6-3.
In the fifth inning, Winfield doubled, and in the sixth inning Marlee Butler singled. Heading into the seventh inning, the Ladycats finished off Mt. Pleasant with Henry singling and Winfield scoring. The Ladycats went on to victory defeating Mt. Pleasant 7-3 to win the Ashdown tournament.
