HOPE – The Hope Bobcats and Ladycats hoopsters finished the 2009-10 basketball season splitting victories against Little Rock Christian Warriors and Lady Warriors on senior night Thursday, February 25 at Jones Field House Gymnasium. The Ladycats would fall short to the Lady Warriors 60-33, and the Bobcats seek revenge defeating the Warriors, 43-40. The junior varsity Bobcats pulled out a 12 point victory over the Warriors, 47-35. The Bobcats and Ladycats will head to the off-season and prepare for next year and be ready for competition.
In junior varsity boys action, Jamayryon Pree led the Bobcats scoring in double-figures with 11 points, Antoine Campbell and Devonte Ross each scored seven points a piece and Miguel Chavez and Marquavious Phillips each scored five points a piece.
In senior girls action, the Lady Warriors led the Ladycats 12-9 at the close of the first quarter. Stephanie Randle scored four points, Dedra Wade hit 2 of 2 free-throws, and Kandcye Brown scored a basket for the Ladycats in the quarter. In second quarter action, the Lady Warriors increased their lead and Brianna Beard made the only points for the Ladycats making 2 of 2 free-throws with Little Rock Christian leading Hope at halftime, 29-11.
In the third, the Lady Warriors increased their lead over the Ladycats, 43-20. In the fourth, Jaleisa Ballance and Alexandria Rhodes scored four points, with Beard making 5 of 6 free-throws in the quarter but, the Lady Warriors would go on to victory over the Ladycats.
In the game, Ballance and Beard led the Ladycats in scoring with eight points a piece, Randle scored five points, Rhodes four points, Brown three points, Wade and Rashion Reed each had two points.
In senior boys action, the Bobcats kept the game close with the Warriors throughout the game. In first quarter action, Wylie Litchford and Tevin Reed converting a three-point play gave the Bobcats a 5-0 lead with 6:42 in the quarter. Fred Muldrew nailed four points and Reed followed up with another basket in the quarter as Hope led the Warriors, 11-10 at the close of the first quarter. In the second, Devonte Harris making two key jumpers and Reed with Litchford scoring baskets gave the Bobcats a 19-15 advantage over the Warriors. Little Rock Christian would make a run late in the quarter and led the Bobcats at halftime, 21-19.
In the third, the Bobcats and the Warriors kept the matchup intense and were tied at the close of the third, 27-27.
In the fourth, Antonie Campbell came into the game swishing two three-pointers and Reed scored six points as Hope led the Warriors by four points 39-35 with 1:56 remaining in the game. The Warriors and the Bobcats were tied 39-39 and Fred Muldrew scored with 30 seconds putting Hope ahead 41-39. The Warriors made a couple of trips to the free-throw line falling short of making attempts and Reed iced the game nailing 2 of 2 free-throws for the Bobcats with 5.7 seconds with Hope leading 43-40. The Warriors had the final possession missing a three-pointer at the buzzer and the Bobcats went on to a big victory on senior night.
In the game, Tevin Reed led the Bobcats scoring in double-figures with 15 points and going perfect at the free-throw line making 5 of 5 shots. Also Fred Muldrew scored 12 points in his final game as a Bobcat. The Bobcats as a team shot 80 percent making 5 of 6 free-throws from the line against the Warriors.
