Last week, the 2011 MLB draft selected numerous players from Arkansas universities and colleges. Hope native and former HHS Bobcat, now head baseball coach of the Arkansas Baptist College Buffaloes Shawn Regan had one of his players selected into the 2011 MLB draft on Tuesday June 7.
Down in the southwest area, Kentrell Hill from Ashdown and Arkansas Baptist College player was selected in the 10th round of the 2011 MLB.
Hill was drafted by the reigning world champion San Francisco Giants as the 327th pick and 32nd junior college player to be chosen from the six team Bi-State Conference.
Regan has been the Buffaloes head baseball coach since 2008 when the program first started at Arkansas Baptist College. In Regan's success as the head coach at Arkansas Baptist College, his Buffaloes competed for the first time in the spring of 2009 at the NJCAA Division I level, finishing with an overall record of 14-30.
For several years, he was the head baseball coach at J.A. Fair High School in Little Rock and two years as the assistant coach there. As an HHS Hope Bobcat baseball player, he was an All-Conference and All-State pitcher, first baseman, playing in two state tournaments, before graduating in 1993. Also he was elected into the Hope High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.
Arkansas Baptist College has finished it’s third season since the program has begun under the direction of Regan. The Arkansas Baptist College draftee Hill played as a center fielder for Regan, hitting over 10 homeruns to hold a school record for the Buffaloes.
