The Blevins Lady Hornets and the No. 1 ranked Nevada Lady Jays would face off for the 1A-7 Central girls district tournament finals on Saturday February 18 held at Blevins High School Gymnasium.
The Lady Hornets and the Lady Jays would meet up for another big battle as Blevins and Nevada were coming off impressive victories in semifinals action to showcase a district finals brawl.
The Lady Hornets fought hard to stay close with Nevada in first half play, but the Lady Jays would come alive in the second half to out-score Blevins.
The Lady Jays went on to win 60-35 over the Lady Hornets to be crowned district tournament champions.
In first quarter action, the Lady Hornets only had a four point deficit to the Lady Jays 15-11.
In the second quarter, the Lady Hornets and the Lady Jays had another competitive period as both teams scored 11 respectively points.
Nevada took a slim 26-22 lead over the Lady Hornets at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Lady Jays built up their intensity level to out-score the Lady Hornets 21-4 as Nevada had a 47-26 lead over Blevins heading into the final quarter of the night.
In the fourth, the Lady Hornets bounced back to score nine points but the Lady Jays added 13 points.
Nevada went on to a 25 point win, as the Lady Hornets would be the runner-ups in the girls district tournament.
For the game, Lady Hornets' Shay Thomas led scoring in double-figures with 14 points, Asia McDaniel posted six points, Aaliyah Richardson had five points and Ta'Nell Barton scored four points.
Tiffany Williamson, Ramonica Howard and Dara Swift all scored two points apiece.
For Nevada, Macy McRae led scoring in double-figures with 20 points and Brianna Mullins scored 18 points for the Lady Jays.
Head coach Jeremy Banister was proud of the Lady Hornets effort against Nevada.
He believes the Lady Hornets are playing they're best basketball since the start of the 2012 year.
He said they had a set back on Saturday night, but Nevada is just a good team and looks forward to the regional tournament this week.
The Lady Hornets will be the No. 2 seed facing Academics Plus on this Thursday with tip-off set for 4 p.m.
The No. 1 overall ranked Lady Jays will be in action tonight taking on LISA Academy at 7 p.m.
The class 1A regional 3 tournament is held at Stephens.
