The hometown Hope Bobcats returned to the gridiron this week on the road for team camp workouts in Spa City-Hot Springs on Tuesday evening, then competed Wednesday in Malvern in the 2018 James King 7-on-7 tournament action at Claude Mann Stadium.

The Bobcats had two back-to-back workouts in the heat, but continues to show progress in their style of competition under the direction of head coach Phillip Turner and staff.

Turner was pleased by their efforts and production in Hot Springs and the team's willingness to return the next day to compete for 7-on-7 competition in Malvern.

The Bobcats battled a variety of classification schools in Malvern and finished strong in each game.

During pool play, the Cats faced Class 6A Benton Panthers, then their 5A South Conference neighbors Camden-Fairview in the second game, matched up against longtime rivals' Nashville in the third game and finished out against Little Rock Catholic in the fourth contest.

In first round of tournament play, the Cats battled Ashdown and came up short of victory to end their tourney run for the evening.

The Bobcats will continue to make progress as the summer rolls on into fall camp starting July 30 into August. Next week, the Bobcats are set to finish out their team camp workouts on their own territory to welcome a variety of talented football programs in the Natural State at Hammons Stadium.

The Bobcats will host team camp on Tuesday July 17 on the Bank of the Ozarks Field. The junior high will kick things off in the morning with 7-on-7 competition with the senior high Bobcats taking the field for team camp exercises in the evening.
