Defending Class 2A State Baseball Champions Spring Hill Bears will begin their road back to Baum Stadium in Fayetteville in the quarterfinals of the 2A State Baseball Tournament 2018 hosted in Pangburn. Friday May 11 at 5:30 p.m., the Bears will face the winner of first round game of Hector/Des Arc in the state baseball tournament quarterfinals in Pangburn, aiming to repeat for a second consecutive state championships for their baseball program.

Last year, the Bears made history in the program to win their first ever state championship in a convincingly shut out victory against Conway Christian 5-0 in the championship game at Baum Stadium.

Thus far, the Bears journey through the 2018 baseball season has been impressive with a 25-3 overall record and capturing title hardware to finish runner-up to Parkers Chapel in the finals of the 2A Regional Tournament last weekend.

The Bears have been guided under the direction of head coach Cameron Brown with assistant coach Rodney Orr this season. Coach Brown was the assistant to Rusty Winfield last season and has continued to bring the winning mentality to lead the Bears through another big year on the diamond.

The Bears finished league season Co-Conference Champs with Parkers Chapel to produce some noise in baseball that have caught the attention of the state in Class 2A.

Coach Brown is excited about the Bears qualifying to compete at state and feel they're playing well enough with a strong focus and determination to finish productively to repeat for the state title.

"We're excited to be going back to state and compete for the state title. Our goal at the beginning of the season is win the championship and that's what we're striving to do," Brown said.

The Bears earned the No. 2 seed from the South after finishing regionals runner-up that gave them a bye in the first round.

The road back to Baum will be challenging as the Bears may see their championship game opponent from last year Conway Christian in the semifinals with both teams prevail through the quarterfinals.

The Bears return several members from last year's state championship team this season and have made the impact to be state tourney qualifiers for the postseason in 2018.

Seniors' Will Phillips, Kaleb Blair, Levi Kidd, Connor Bell, Parker Freeman, Cameron Powell, Cam Middleton and Justin Adcock have held the leadership role this season for the Bears.

They'll take on the big roles to help the Bears maintain the confidence to guide Spring Hill through their tourney run at state to contend for the programs' second title.

The 2A State Baseball Tournament is scheduled May 10-12 with the finals next week May 18-19 in Fayetteville at Baum Stadium.
