The Spring Hill Lady Bears wrapped up their play at the 2A South Regionals Softball Tournament over the weekend hosted in Poyen to finish third place as the No. 3 seed from the South entering the Class 2A State Softball Tournament.

The Spring Hill Lady Bears wrapped up their play at the 2A South Regionals Softball Tournament over the weekend hosted in Poyen to finish third place as the No. 3 seed from the South entering the Class 2A State Softball Tournament.

The Lady Bears clinched their spot to compete at state defeating Murfreesboro 7-4 in the opening round at regionals. In the semifinals, the Lady Bears lost to Camden Harmony Grove Lady Hornets 13-3, but bounce back strong to shut out the Parkers Chapel Lady Trojans 4-0 in the third-fourth place game.

This Thursday May 10 at 12:30 p.m., the Lady Bears will face No. 4 seed from West Central Lavaca in first round of the state softball tournament hosted at Pangburn. The state tournament is scheduled for May 10-12.

The Lady Bears have developed to be a state tourney qualifier and have advanced to the state finals the previous three seasons 2015-17. Last year, the Lady Bears finished state runner-up to Rison, but look to reclaim back the title in hopes for a fourth consecutive trip to Bogle Park.

The state finals is scheduled May 18-19 in Fayetteville. 

2A SOUTH REGIONALS SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT 2018

First Round

LADY BEARS 7, MURFREESBORO 4

The Lady Bears seek revenge at the best time of the season to defeat Murfreesboro 7-4 in the opening round at regionals.

Katie Rivera wasted no opportunities at the plate driving in five on three hits to lead Spring Hill past Murfreesboro. Rivera drove in runs on a grand slam in the third and a home run in the seventh.

Murfreesboro took control early in the first inning driving in one run off a single to lead the Lady Bears 1-0.

The Lady Bears rallied back in the third inning scoring five runs to regain the lead 5-1.

Although Murfreesboro launched two home runs on the day by Madison Humphry in the fourth inning and Lainie Baxter in the seventh inning, the Lady Bears secured victory with a run apiece in the sixth and seventh for the three-run win to advance.

Offensively, Spring Hill collected seven runs on 11 hits while the Murfreeboro scored four runs on 10 hits. Rivera, Keylee Lewis, and Whitnee Lee each managed multiple hits for the Lady Bears. Rivera went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Spring Hill in hits.

Maegan Ward had one hit with a run, Brooklyn Reed scored a run, Paige Runion had a hit and two RBI's, Rivera scored two runs, three hits including a grand slam and a home run and five RBI's. Cheyenne Bobo had a hit and scored a run, Whitnee had two hits with a triple and an RBI, Jessi Park scored a run with a hit, Lewis scored a run with two hits.

Defensively, the Lady Bears went errorless. Jessi Park made the most plays with nine.

In the pitcher's circle, Cheyenne Bobo was the winning pitcher for Spring Hill lasting seven innings, allowed 10 hits and four runs while striking out one batter and threw 52 strikes.

Semifinals

LADY BEARS 3, CAMDEN HARMONY GROVE 13

In the semifinals at regionals, the Lady Bears would fall in defeat to Camden Harmony Grove 13-3 for the third time this season. 

Harmony Grove took the lead on a single in the first inning, then scored one more run in the second and five runs in the third to take a 7-0 lead advantage through the third inning.

The Lady Bears ended their scoring drought with a run in the fourth, but trailed the Lady Hornets 7-1 going into the fifth inning.

Harmony Grove scored five runs in the fifth inning with the Lady Bears sparking for two runs in the inning.

The Lady Hornets scored their final run of the game in the sixth that led to their 10-run victory over Spring Hill.

Kacie Reede was the winning pitcher for Harmony Grove. She lasted six innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out seven batters and walking one.

Cheyenne Bobo pitched for the Lady Bears allowing eight runs on 10 hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out one batter and threw 63 pitches. Reed pitched and allowed one hit, five runs walked four batters and threw 12 strikes.

Ward led Spring Hill Lady Bears Varsity with two hits in three at bats.

Harmony Grove collected 11 hits. Synthia English, Fletcher, and Reede each racked up multiple hits for Harmony Grove.

Third-Fourth Place Game

LADY BEARS 4, PARKERS CHAPEL 0

The Lady Bears showcased productive defense to shut out Parkers Chapel 4-0 and seek redemption for their previous defeats from battling the Lady Trojans.

Cheyenne Bobo led the defensive approach in the pitcher's circle to shut down Parkers Chapel, throwing a complete game in the shutout victory.

Cheyenne Bobo was the winning pitcher for Spring Hill and allowed five hits and no runs over seven innings, striking out four batters, no walks and threw 56 strikes.

Offensively, Reed led Spring Hill with two hits in three at bats. Runion and Ward each had a hit apiece and Lee drove in a run for an RBI. Jada Quillin and Reed each collected a stolen base apiece.
