The hometown Hope Bobcats and Ladycats soccer teams split victories in their battles to finish third overall in the 5A South Conference Tournament this week hosted in White Hall.

The hometown Hope Bobcats and Ladycats soccer teams split victories in their battles to finish third overall in the 5A South Conference Tournament this week hosted in White Hall.

The Bobcats and Ladycats both were victorious in first round action on Monday in their battles at home to host the opening round before advancing to the semifinals to be played in White Hall.

GIRLS CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

The Ladycats topped Hot Springs in the first round, but came up short to De Queen in the semifinals 6-0 to put them in the third and fourth place game for seeding at the state tournament.

The Ladycats prevailed in a productive way to defeat the White Hall Lady Bulldogs 4-2 to earn the No. 3 seed going into the Class 5A State Girls Soccer Tournament. Ladycats' Gabby Dominguez sparked the offense scoring two goals, Neomi Salazar and Lizbeity Mayo each scored a goal to propel Hope to victory over host tourney team White Hall. Defensively, Hanna McCorkle recorded five saves at goalie with the defensive unit being productive to keep the Lady Bulldogs scoreless in the entire second half for 40 minutes of play.

BOYS CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

The Bobcats opened tourney play with a victorious performance hosting White Hall in the opening round on Monday in Hope. In the semifinals, the Bobcats faced off against De Queen in a competitive battle. The Cats would get edged 3-0 by De Queen to force Hope to play in the boys third and fourth place game in conference tourney for seeding. The Bobcats seek league series revenge to defeat Hot Springs Lakeside 2-0 in a shutout victory to earn the No. 3 seed from the South at the Class 5A State Boys Tournament in Harrison.

Christian Martinez and Noel Balbuena sparked the Bobcats' offense with scoring a goal apiece behind a impressive defensive performance by Hope to shutout the Rams the entire 80 minutes for play for both halves of soccer competition. Hope's goalie Ezequel Monreal collected four saves to help secure the win with the Bobcats' defensive unit for game action.

The Class 5A State Soccer Tournament is scheduled May 10-12 hosted in Harrison.
