Defending Class 2A State Baseball Champions Spring Hill Bears look to begin their quest for title number two this Thursday May 3 in the first round of the 2A South Regional Tournament hosted in Poyen. The Bears earn the No. 2 seed and will face host regional team Poyen Indians in the first round at 12:30 p.m. in Poyen.
The Bears wrapped up the regular season schedule last Friday on the road in a dominating victory against Rison 13-3 to clinch a share of the league title with Parkers Chapel as Co-Conference Champions.
The Bears' victory put them at 23-2 overall and currently rolling on a 12-game winning streak heading into the regional baseball tournament.
The Bears racked up a productive series of plays to secure them the victory against Rison to sweep their series match-up in league play.
Wesley Featherston recorded the win from the mound pitching the entire game, throwing 78 pitches and only giving up three runs on the evening.
Offensively, the Bears collected 13 runs on 15 hits. Will Phillips had two doubles, Cam Middleton had four singles, Featherston had one single, Levi Kidd and Kaleb Blair each recorded a single and a double apiece. Justin Lecher had a single, Rusty Orr had a double and Cameron Powell provided the highlight hit and play offensively of the game with a inside the park grand slam with a single.
Each of the Bears made trips across home plate for runs that helped seal the deal to be victorious.
