For another tough battle on the diamond in their conference series finale, the Hope Bobcats were topped by longtime school rivals' Magnolia Panthers 20-0 on Tuesday evening at Legion Field, Fair Park.

For another tough battle on the diamond in their conference series finale, the Hope Bobcats were topped by longtime school rivals' Magnolia Panthers 20-0 on Tuesday evening at Legion Field, Fair Park.

Magnolia got rolling early with nine runs scored in the first inning off a groundout, a walk, and a couple of singles and doubles. 

The Panthers sparked for one run scored in the third, then four runs in the third taking an 14-0 lead through the fourth inning. In the fifth, the Panthers made six trips across home plate for runs with the Cats unable to score for the entire game.

One bright spot for the Diamond Bobcats was a single by Malek Randle in the fifth inning. Randle recorded the lone hit of the game for the Cats. Randle led Hope with one hit in two at bats.

Nash Miller got the win for Magnolia from the mound. He lasted two innings, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out six batters and no walks.

For Hope, Aldo Gonzalez pitched one inning, allowed seven runs, 10 hits and threw 26 strikes. Nate Carter pitched and allowed three hits and six runs, struck out two batters, threw 26 strikes over one and one-third innings. Zachary Fields pitched two innings, allowed three hits, four runs, walked two, struck out three batters and threw 33 strikes.

Magnolia tallied 20 runs on 13 hits in the game.

Today at 5 p.m., the Bobcats will host Arkansas High Razorbacks for senior night at Legion Field.

The Cats will continue play on this Friday on the road to face Class 6A El Dorado Wildcats for 5A/6A Conference action.
