The Diamond Bobcats came up short of victory in their first of two game series meeting against Camden-Fairview Cardinals 7-1 in seven innings of baseball action at home last Friday evening at Legion Field during 5A/6A Conference play.

The Diamond Bobcats came up short of victory in their first of two game series meeting against Camden-Fairview Cardinals 7-1 in seven innings of baseball action at home last Friday evening at Legion Field during 5A/6A Conference play.

The Cats out-hit the Cardinals at the plate offensively, but Camden-Fairview managed to spark seven runs across home plate for the scoreboard as Hope was held to one run.

The Cats lone run came in the seventh inning to fall short of their comeback after the Cards sparked to an 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.

Hope's defense stood ground effectively early to hold Camden-Fairview scoreless through the second inning. Camden-Fairview to the 5-0 lead with five runs scored in the third inning, but held scoreless in the fourth through sixth innings by the Cats' defense.

Gunner Branch led the Camden-Fairview to victory on the pitcher's mound. He surrendered one run on six hits over seven innings, striking out 12 batters and walking one.

The Cats pitcher Zachary Fields brought the heat from the mound. Fields lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and seven runs while striking out seven batters and walking one batter and threw 65 strikes.

Offensively, Nate Carter led Hope with three hits in three at bats.

Carter had a triple with two singles. Hunter Hellums had a double, Aldo Gonzales and Fields each had a single apiece. Fields also had the lone RBI for Hope to drive in one run. Carter scored Hope's only run. Fields also had one stolen base for Hope.

The Diamond Bobcats will be off from action this week due to spring break, but scheduled to return to action on the road Tuesday March 27 to conclude league series meeting against Hot Springs in Spa City, in hopes to sweep the Trojans in victory. The Cats also will continue conference play next week on Friday hosting De Queen at Legion Field.
