The Hope Ladycats entered into their first tournament of the season over the weekend hosted at Ashdown. The Ladycats battled in three games coming up short of wins against Class 6A Arkansas High, Waldron and host tourney team Ashdown.

The Hope Ladycats entered into their first tournament of the season over the weekend hosted at Ashdown. The Ladycats battled in three games coming up short of wins against Class 6A Arkansas High, Waldron and host tourney team Ashdown. 

This week, the Ladycats will begin conference play and scheduled to host Prescott at home on Wednesday at Ladycat Stadium if weather permits and field conditions are playable.

ASHDOWN SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT 2018

LADYCATS 1, ARKANSAS HIGH 21

The Hope Ladycats opened tournament play in a hard fought loss to Arkansas High Lady Razorbacks 21-1 in the three innings. The Ladycats sparked for their lone run of the game in the first inning. Arkansas High scored seven runs in the first, then four in the second inning and 10 runs in the third inning. Hope totaled for one run on five hits with Arkansas High recording 21 runs on 15 hits and one error.

At bat, Tristen Jones had two hits with a double and an RBI. Natalie Phillips, Morgan Gray and Ally Fincher each had a hit apiece. Andria Curtis scored the Ladycats' lone run. At the pitcher's circle, Phillips pitched three innings, struck out three batters and threw 54 strikes.

LADYCATS 2, WALDRON 17

The Ladycats had another big challenging match-up in tournament play falling to Waldron 17-2 in four innings. The Ladycats sparked for two runs scored with a run apiece in the first and second innings. Waldron led 5-1 after the first inning, then scored seven runs in the second leading 12-2 at the end of the second inning. In the third, Waldron sparked for two runs then three in the fourth. Hope totaled for two runs on two hits with five errors. Waldron had 17 runs on 10 hits. Curtis scored one run with a hit, Fincher had an RBI and Zymesha Lee scored a run with a hit. Curtis had a stolen base. At the pitcher's circle, Kaley Green pitched three innings, struck out one batter and threw 58 strikes.

LADYCATS 1, ASHDOWN 16

In the final game of tourney action the Ladycats faced off against host tournament team Ashdown Lady Panthers. This would be the second time these two teams squared off on the diamond since Hope hosted Ashdown for their season-opener on Feb. 26. The Ladycats kept it close early in first inning play as both teams were knotted 1-1. In the second, Ashdown sparked for a big 15 run inning with the Ladycats held scoreless after first inning play. Hope totaled for one run on one hit with the Lady Panthers scoring 16 runs on four hits and one error. Curtis recorded the Ladycats' lone hit and run of the game and Jones had the RBI. Curtis also had one stolen base. At the pitcher's circle, Green pitched two innings and threw 24 strikes with only four hits allowed.
