The Spring Hill Jr. Lady Bears brought back championship hardware this past Monday night to capture the 2018 Jr. High Girls 2A-7 East District Tournament title after defeating Parkers Chapel Jr. Lady Trojans 23-20 in the finals hosted at Camden Harmony Grove.

The Spring Hill Jr. Lady Bears brought back championship hardware this past Monday night to capture the 2018 Jr. High Girls 2A-7 East District Tournament title after defeating Parkers Chapel Jr. Lady Trojans 23-20 in the finals hosted at Camden Harmony Grove.

The Jr. Lady Bears rolled big with an impressive first round victory over Rison 33-17, then defeated Bearden in the semifinals 29-24 to advance to the championship game and prevailed to reclaim back the district title since the 2013-14 season. This was the second consecutive season the Jr. Lady Bears have advance to the district tourney finals as they finished runner-ups last year for 2016-17. 

The Jr. Lady Bears finish the 2017-18 season 9-4 overall under head coach Roy Whatley.

2A-7 JR. HIGH GIRLS DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

First Round

JR. LADY BEARS 33, RISON 17

Spring Hill pulled off an dominant first round victory over Rison. The Jr. Lady Bears sparked to an 18-6 halftime lead, then outscored Rison 15-11 in the second half for third and fourth quarter scoring combined. Defensively, the Rison was held under double-digit scoring for all four periods of action. For the game, Jr. Lady Bears Paige Runion led scoring with 14 points for double-figures and Brooklyn Reed finished with eight points.

Semifinals

JR. LADY BEARS 29, BEARDEN 24

In last year's district tourney championship game rematch, the Jr. Lady Bears seek redemption this time to top Bearden with productive defense to return to the finals for the second consecutive season. Spring Hill took an 19-10 halftime advantage into the locker room over Bearden. In the second half, Bears outscored Spring Hill 13-10 for third and fourth quarter periods combined, but the Jr. Lady Bears first half play held over to secure the five-point victory. For the game, Jr. Lady Bears' Reed led scoring with 12 points for double-figures. Runion followed with nine points and Darcie Chambless finished with six points.

Championship Game

JR. LADY BEARS 23, PARKERS CHAPEL 20

For an intense defensive battle for the title, the Jr. Lady Bears stepped up big with defense to outlast Parkers Chapel Jr. Trojans in a low scoring affair in the championship game. Parkers Chapel was held to only two points scored apiece in the first and second periods with the Jr. Lady Bears outscoring them to take a 10-4 lead into the locker room at halftime. In the second half, the Jr. Lady Trojans outscored Spring Hill 16-13, but both teams' defense held each other under double-digits with the Jr. Lady Bears executing down the stretch to be victorious to capture the district tourney title. For the game, Jr. Lady Bears' Chambless and Runion led scoring with eight points apiece, Reed finished with five points and Rilee Hammonds contributed two points in victory.
