Garrett Memorial Christian School Jr. Lady Saints have advanced to the 2018 AACS Jr. Varsity State Tournament hosted at Southwest Christian Academy in Little Rock over the weekend after defeating Community Christian 27-17 in the first round, then topping CMA 52-46 in double overtime in the semifinals.

Garrett Memorial Christian School Jr. Lady Saints have advanced to the 2018 AACS Jr. Varsity State Tournament hosted at Southwest Christian Academy in Little Rock over the weekend after defeating Community Christian 27-17 in the first round, then topping CMA 52-46 in double overtime in the semifinals.

In first round play, the Jr. Lady Saints coasted to an early big first half lead advantage over Community Christian 18-2 at halftime. In the second half, GMCS added nine points despite CC outscoring them with 10 points but held scoreless in the fourth quarter for the Jr. Lady Saints to prevail for an 30 point win to advance to the semifinals.

For the game, Claire Fry led scoring with eight points and two trey's from behind the arc. Katie Beth Alexander followed with five points, Anna Beth Martin, Raley Sullivan and Libby Tyson each had four points apiece and Kennedy Hamilton finished with two points to secure the win.

In the semifinals, the Jr. Lady Saints executed well down the stretch to come away for the six point victory in two overdrive periods to face their school rivals' Columbia Christian Jr. Lady Crusaders in the championship scheduled Feb. 17 in Magnolia.

The Jr. Lady Saints fell to Columbia Christian at home in their most recent encounter, but GMCS looks to seek redemption on their home territory for the championship led by head coach Rachel Foster.
