Once again it was a third meeting between Hempstead County rivals' Blevins and Spring Hill matched up on the hardwood to battle each other, but in the senior girls championship game in the 2018 Southwest Arkansas Shootout hosted at Bradley High School Gymnasium.

In their recent two encounters this season, the Spring Hill Lady Bears came out victorious, but the Blevins Lady Hornets would prevail in the third meeting on last Saturday in the championship game. The Lady Hornets defeated Spring Hill 56-44, which granted Blevins their second consecutive tournament title in Bradley and crown back to back Southwest Arkansas Shootout Sr. Girls Champions for 2018.

The senior girls championship game was intense similar to Blevins and Spring Hill's previous two battles. In opening period action, the Lady Bears had the early spark and outscored Blevins to take an 8-6 lead at the end of first quarter action. In the second, the Lady Hornets opened the period on fire from behind the arc with Amani Furlow draining an 3-pointer to give Blevins a slight 9-8 lead. The Lady Bears came back and took the lead with a basket 10-9, then marched to lead to three with Momoka Maeda scoring for Spring Hill and leading Blevins 12-9 at the 6:09 mark.

Jasmine Batson posted the next three points for Blevins for the first knot of the quarter at 12-12 down to the 3:37 mark. Nika Carstens swished a trey from behind the arc to put the Lady Bears up 15-12, but Bailey Hall answered for Blevins with a basket to cut their deficit to 15-14 almost coming up on two minutes remaining in first half play.

Graycee Barhama connected on a pair of free-throws to give SHS an 17-14 lead, but Diana Samuel scored the final basket of the half for Blevins with 41 seconds and the Lady Bears led the Lady Hornets 17-16 at halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Hornets built momentum and outscored the Lady Bears 15-7 in the third quarter. At the end of three periods of action, the defending Bradley tourney champs Blevins led Spring Hill 31-24 going into the final quarter of the night.

In the fourth, both teams provided productive scoring contributions and defensive plays, but the Lady Hornets had the spark and dropped 25 points scored in the final period and the Lady Bears pouring 20 points on the board. Batson, Furlow, Samuel and Alyssa Richardson all accounted points scored in the final period. Christy Randle, Barham, Maeda, Katie Rivera and Maegan Ward all posted baskets for the Lady Bears in the fourth.

The Lady Hornets went onto secure a double-digit 12 point victory and ended the Lady Bears 15-game winning streak and Spring Hill' s first loss since November 9, 2017.

For the game, Lady Hornets' Batson led all scorers with a huge 26 points and Furlow added 10 points for double-figures. Samuel scored nine points, Hall finished with eight points and Richardson contributed three points according to the official tournament scorebook by Bradley. For Spring Hill, Randle led the Lady Bears with a big 19 points for double-figures.
