Hope ninth grade girls basketball team displayed their best overall performance on the hardwood this past Monday night for their first home of the new year defeating Camden-Fairview Jr. Lady Cardinals 41-31 to break into the win column this 2017-18 basketball season.

Hope opened the second half of the season schedule on the road falling to De Queen Jr. Lady Leopards 31-20, then entered into tourney competition over the weekend in the 2018 De Queen Winter Invitational Girls Upper Division Tournament and fell to Texarkana 19-9.

Hope ninth grade bring their momentum back home for junior high girls action on next Thursday night hosting Texarkana for the third meeting of the season at Jones Field House Gymnasium.

 

HOPE 41, CAMDEN-FAIRVIEW 31

Hope ninth grade girls never trailed at the end of all four quarter of action in their battle hosting Camden-Fairview Jr. Lady Cardinals. Hope finished first period play leading CF 8-4. In the second, Hope accounted 10 points on the and defensively held the Jr. Lady Cardinals under double-digits for seven points scored. At the break, Hope led CF, 18-11.

In the second half, Hope accounted another double-digit scoring quarter in the third with 10 points to outscore the Jr. Lady Cardinals to post five on the board. At the end of three periods of action, Hope took a commanding 12 point lead over the Jr. Lady Cardinals, 28-16. In the fourth quarter, Hope finished off CF pouring 13 points in the basket with CF dropping 15 points on the board to fall to the home team Hope. For the game, Mariuna McClenton led scoring with 14 points, DaNya Muldrow dropped 12 points for double-figures. Nia'kerra Magee had seven points, Ashanti Railey scored four points, Anntaevia Briggs had two points, Aniya Trotter and Emily Miller each chipped in one point apiece.

 

HOPE 20, DE QUEEN 31

In their first game back from the Christmas holiday break, Hope ninth grade girls hoop squad traveled to De Queen to face the Jr. Lady Leopards for an tough junior high match-up. Hope fought to the end, but the Jr. Lady Leopards prevailed for the 31-20 victory for the first of their two game season series meeting. For the game, McClenton and Railey led scoring with six points apiece.

First Round

HOPE 9, TEXARKANA 19

In the opening round of tournament competition in De Queen, Hope would fall to Texarkana 19-9 in the Winter Invitational upper division tourney. Hope trailed at the break to Texarkana, 8-5. In the second half, Texarkana outscored Hope 11-4 for third and fourth period action combined that ended Hope's competition run in tourney play. For the game, Magee led scoring for Hope with five points.
