To tip-off the new year on the hardwood for junior high basketball action, Hope ninth grade boys hoopsters pulled away victorious on the road against De Queen 31-8 for their taste of competition for 2018.

Then, returned to De Queen for tourney competition to defeat Caddo Hills 35-31 to advance to the semifinals in the Winter Invitational Upper Division Tournament 2018. Hope will face Nashville tonight in the boys semifinals at 7:45 p.m. in De Queen. The De Queen Winter Invitational is scheduled Jan. 6-13.

On this past Monday night, Hope hosted Camden-Fairview Jr. Cardinals for their first home game of the new year at Jones Field House Gymnasium. Hope battle hard to the end, but got edged by the Jr. Cardinals 42-40.

 

HOPE 31, DE QUEEN 8

Hope came out sparking in first half play to lead De Queen Jr. Leopards 13-5 at the break. In the second half, Hope outscored De Queen 18-3 for third and fourth quarter scoring combined. Hope went onto an 23 point victory. For the game, Hope's Travion Rhodes led scoring with nine points, Caden Brown followed with five points, Zykeis Raglon and Cory Lewis each had four points apiece, Lavario Morris and Tevin Hayden each scored three points apiece and Jatario Lewis chipped in one point.

 

HOPE 40, CAMDEN-FAIRVIEW 42

For a competitive match-up of junior high boys basketball action, Hope ninth grade hoopsters displayed a tough fight hosting Camden-Fairview Jr. Cardinals in their first home game of the new year. Hope led early finishing first period play 11-9. In the second, the Jr. Cardinals rallied back to take the lead and outscored Hope 13-9. At halftime, CF led Hope 22-20. In the second half, Hope made their rally known and stayed within striking distance of the Jr. Cardinals, but the home team (Hope) trailed only by two points to CF, 31-29 at the end of third quarter action. In the fourth, Hope posted 12 points on the scoreboard, but the Jr. Cardinals finished the game with 11 points to secure them the two point win on the road as the visitors. For the game, Rhodes led scoring with a big 18 points and Raglon added a strong 12 points for double-figures. Cory Lewis drained to 3-pointers for six points and Tevin Hayden scored four points.

HOPE 35, CADDO HILLS 31

In opening round of the De Queen Winter Invitational Jr. High Tournament, Hope fought back from a 24-15 halftime deficit to defeat the Caddo Hill Jr. Indians 35-31. Hope outscored Caddo Hills 20-7 in the second half to advance to the semifinals of the upper division for the four point first round win over the Jr. Indians. For the game, Rhodes, Raglon and Cory Lewis led the scoring department each posting eight points apiece, Hayden added six points, Morris had four points and Jatario Lewis chipped in one point.
