The Spring Hill Jr. Bears have recently been busy of hoops competition on the hardwood for road battles to finish out the first half of the 2017-18 junior high basketball schedule.

The Spring Hill Jr. Bears have recently been busy of hoops competition on the hardwood for road battles to finish out the first half of the 2017-18 junior high basketball schedule.

In recent regular season schedule action, the Jr. Bears traveled to Mineral Springs for action and fell short 40-38 to the Jr. Hornets on the road. For the game, Jr. Bears' Trenten Searcy led scoring with 12 points in double-figures.

Then on this past Tuesday night, the Jr. Bears continued more junior high basketball play on the road falling to the Parkers Chapel Jr. Trojans, 50-18. The Jr. Bears trailed to Parkers Chapel at the break, 30-12 going into the second half where the Jr. Trojans totaled for 20 points and Spring Hill held to six posted on the scoreboard for third and fourth quarters combined. For the game, Jr. Bears' Matthew Bruce led scoring with nine points.

 

GENOA JR. HIGH TOURNAMENT

First Round

JR. BEARS 50, EMERSON 43

Spring Hill Jr. Bears opened tourney play victorious in first round action defeating Emerson Jr. Pirates 50-43 to advance to the second round in the 2017 Genoa Jr. High Boys Tournament. The Jr. Bears trailed in first half play with a three point deficit at halftime to Emerson, 24-21. In the second half, the Jr. Bears brought momentum and rallied back to outscore Emerson in the third and fourth quarters combined 29-19, that led to a seven point win for Spring Hill. For the game, Jr. Bears Trenten Searcy led scoring with an impressive 25 points and Chase Yocom added 13 points for double-figures. Collin Purifoy and Bruce each had five points apiece and Trestan Brown added two points.

 

Semifinals

JR. BEARS 38, GENOA 40

In the boys semifinals match-up, the Jr. Bears faced host tourney team Genoa Central Jr. Dragons to compete to advance to the finals. The Jr. Bears had a tough task to overcome the home-court advantage, but competed hard and got edged down to the wire to fall in defeat to Genoa.

The loss ended the Jr. Bears run in tourney play to finish in the boys final four of the Genoa Jr. High Tournament. Nevada Jr. Blue Jays would win the Genoa tourney to defeat Genoa Central Jr. Dragons in the boys championship game.
