The Blevins Lady Hornets went to war in one of their most competitive battles on the hardwood at home hosting the Murfreesboro Lady Rattlers on the "Paul Noesser Court" at the Imon G. Brown Gymnasium earlier this week. Blevins leading scorer Jasmine Batson showcased another big overall scoring performance to drop a season-high 35 points to lead the Lady Hornets in victory against the Lady Rattlers, 59-56.

The Blevins Lady Hornets went to war in one of their most competitive battles on the hardwood at home hosting the Murfreesboro Lady Rattlers on the "Paul Noesser Court" at the Imon G. Brown Gymnasium earlier this week. Blevins leading scorer Jasmine Batson showcased another big overall scoring performance to drop a season-high 35 points to lead the Lady Hornets in victory against the Lady Rattlers, 59-56.

The win kept the Lady Hornets unbeaten at home thus this season to keep them with a plus .500 overall record to finish out the first half of the 2017-18 basketball season.

In opening period play, the Lady Rattlers struck first to take a 4-0 lead down to the 6:36 mark. Blevins veteran point guard Diana Samuel answered dropping a trey from behind the arc, then Batson followed with a trey and scoring two consecutive baskets from the field with one at the buzzer that gave the Lady Hornets a 13-4 lead to end first quarter play.

In the second quarter, the Lady Rattlers opened the period with a basket to cut their deficit to 13-6 at the 7:37 mark. Bailey Hall posted Blevins' first bucket of the quarter at the 7:19 mark, then Batson scored a basket that extended the Lady Hornets lead to 17-5 at the 5:43 mark. Amani Furlow drained a three-pointer that was nothing but net through the rim and Camri Kirkham contributed with a bucket to build some home momentum to give Blevins a 24-8 lead down to the 3:34 mark.

The Lady Rattlers made a run down to the 1:01 mark to cut their deficit to 24-15. Batson answered with a bucket to extend the Blevins lead back to double-digits 26-15 with 23 seconds remaining to play in first half action. Batson came right back for her final points scored of the half making a basket and fouled on the continuation in the closing seconds of the half that led to a Blevins lead over Murfreesboro 28-16 at the break.

In the second half, the Lady Hornets would struggle coming out the locker room in the third quarter with the Lady Rattlers gaining momentum to outscore Blevins 22-9. At the end of three periods of action, Murfreesboro led the Lady Hornets, 38-37.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Hornets would regain back the momentum led by a scoring surge of Batson posting eight points for Blevins down to the 5:12 mark with Blevins leading Murfreesboro, 45-40.

Batson then added another bucket with Samuel and Kirkham each connecting on a pair of free-throws at the foul line that put Blevins back ahead by four points, 51-47 with 2:58 remaining to play in the game. With under three minutes left to play, the game shaw a turn of momentum shifting as the Lady Hornets took a 59-51 lead down to 18 seconds remaining to play.

Batson, Furlow and Samuel all provided the scoring, but the Lady Rattlers scored the final points of the game adding five on the scoreboard in the closing seconds draining a three-pointer and making two free-throws to cut their deficit. With Blevins having a three point lead at 1.2 second left, time would run out for Murfreesboro and the Lady Hornets secured victory.

For the game, Samuel scored nine points, Kirkham had eight points, Furlow followed with five points and Bailey Hall contributed two points. The Lady Hornets accounted nine made trifecta's from behind the arc as a team against Murfreesboro.

The Lady Hornets traveled to England for senior high girls road action Tuesday night and came up short of victory for an non-conference match-up. The Lady Hornets will be off from action during the Christmas holiday break and set to return to the hardwood for second half season basketball competition in January 2018.
