The hometown Hope Ladycats finally got their first taste of early season tournament competition over the weekend for three intense match-ups on the hardwood for senior high girls basketball action in New Boston, Texas.

The hometown Hope Ladycats finally got their first taste of early season tournament competition over the weekend for three intense match-ups on the hardwood for senior high girls basketball action in New Boston, Texas.

The Ladycats competed in the 2017 Gunslinger Sr. Girls Tournament scheduled Dec. 7-9 hosted in New Boston, Texas. The Ladycats lost their first two battles of tourney play against Liberty-Eylau 69-33, New Boston 48-46 but secured an impressive victory against Liberty-Eylau JV 53-35 in their finale game of tournament play.

This Friday night for the of meeting of a two game series meeting, the Ladycats return to home action to host the Class 6A Arkansas High Lady Razorbacks for 5A-6A Blended Conference play at Jones Field House Gymnasium.

 

2017 GUNSLINGER SR. HIGH GIRLS TOURNAMENT

Game 1

LADYCATS 33, LIBERTY-EYLAU 69

Hope Ladycats opened tournament play falling to Liberty-Eylau 69-33 in first round play in New Boston, Texas. The Ladycats trailed 15-6 at the end of opening period play. In the second, the Ladycats posted in double-digits but got outscored by LE 20-11. At the break, Hope trailed LE, 35-17. In the second half, the Ladycats dropped 16 points on the scoreboard, but LE totaled for 34 points secure the 36 point win. For the game, Ladycats' Ranayzia Miller and Lanay Wheaton led scoring with eight points apiece, Courtney Davis finished with seven points, Ke'Azha Roberts had three points, Andria Curtis, Me'Ashyia Camal and Sarah Willis each contributed two points apiece. Jamya Gumble chipped in one point from the charity stripe.

 

Game 2

LADYCATS 46, NEW BOSTON 48

The Ladycats continued tourney play in New Boston, Texas in second day competition battling host tournament team New Boston Lady Lions. The Ladycats trailed early in first quarter action to New Boston 16-9 to end opening quarter play. In the second, the Ladycats only got outscore by one point to the Lady Lions 7-6. At the break, Hope trailed New Boston, 23-15. In the second half, the Ladycats boosted up their offensive attack and produced double-digit scoring quarters for third and fourth periods to total 31 points on the scoreboard. The Lady Lions managed to drop 35 points in the second quarter and edged the Ladycats 48-46 for the second time this season. For the game, Ladycats' Zahria Woods led scoring with a season-high 11 points and Miller followed with 10 points for double-figures. Wheaton finished the game with nine points, Curtis added six points, Roberts and Courtney Davis each had four points apiece and Willis scored two points.

 

Game 3

LADYCATS 53, LIBERTY-EYLAU JV 35

The Ladycats rallied back strong for their first defeats in tourney play to finish tournament competition victorious over Liberty-Eylau JV 53-35 for the their first win of the season. Hope had a slow start in opening quarter play to trail LE 9-6 going into the second quarter. The Ladycats built momentum in the second period to outscore LE 15-6. At the halftime, the Ladycats led LE 21-15. In the second half, the Ladycats posted double-digit scoring quarters with 20 in the third and 12 points in the fourth to total 32 points outscoring LE accounting 20 points total for the final two periods of action. The Ladycats went onto 18 point win to break into the winning column this season. For the game, Genesis Muldrow led scoring with 14 points, Miller followed with 12 points and Willis added 10 points for a trio of double-figures. Wheaton finished with eight points, Woods scored five points, Cortiunna Muldrew and Gamble each had two points apiece.
