Yerger Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team racked up back to back victories on the road last week in junior high hoops competition.

YMS topped Magnolia 21-20 in a close and intense battle on the hardwood. Hope had the early deficit at the end of first quarter play to Magnolia, 10-2. In the second, YMS rallied back to outscore Magnolia 9-2 and at halftime, Hope only trailed by one point to Magnolia, 12-11.

For the entire second half, YMS outscored Magnolia 10-8 with Hope securing the one point victory with a 10-3 fourth quarter scoring advantage over Magnolia. For the game, Aniya Trotter led scoring with 14 points for double-figures. Alexia Muldrew followed with three points, Na'Tyja White and D. Purifoy each contributed two points apiece.

Then on last Thursday Dec. 7, the YMS eighth grade hoopsters traveled to Ashdown and came out victorious, 15-8. YMS maintain the edge in first half play leading Ashdwon 7-3 at the break. In the second half, YMS outscored Ashdown 8-5 for third and fourth quarter scoring. As a result, YMS left Ashdown with the seven point wins to post consecutive game victories on the road to build momentum for a two-game winning streak. For the game, Trotter led scoring with six points, Muldrew followed with five points and White finished with four point in their victory.

YMS will look carry their momentum back on the road to close out the year of hoops in eighth grade girls basketball competition at Arkadephia on Dec. 18 to begin the first of a three game night stanza at Arkadelphia High School Gymnasium.
