Yerger Middle School eighth grade hoopsters came away victorious on the hardwood hosting Arkadelphia 41-35 last Thursday night to open the 2017-18 basketball season at Jones Field House Gymnasium.

In opening quarter action, the Arkadelphia had the early edge to outscore Hope 6-5 going into the second period of play. In the second, Arkadelphia continued to lead for the last four minutes of play, but Hope held a one point advantage at the start with a basket by Ammorrioun Dempsey at the 5:39 mark YMS leading 7-6. From there, Arkadelphia outscored Hope 8-4. At halftime, Hope trailed Arkadekphia 14-11.

In the second half, YMS came out with a spark to regain momentum and out-scored Arkadelphia 15-9 in the third quarter, which Hope led A-town 26-23 after three periods of action.

In the fourth, YMS posted their best scoring quarter of the night with 15 points with visiting Arkadelphia dropping in double-digits for 12 points, but Hope prevailed for the six point win.

For the game, YMS was led in scoring by duo Davian Durden and Dempsey with 10 points apiece for double-figures. Ladarius Allen followed with eight points, Erik Haynie added had five points, Marquavios Monk had four points and Tyzhan Jones finished with three points.

For Arkadelphia, Palmer led scoring with 15 points and Ware had 10 points both swishing three trifecta's from behind the arc for double-figures.

This Thursday night, YMS hoopsters return to eighth grade hoops hosting Texarkana at home beginning with seventh grade action at 5 p.m. at Jones Field House Gymnasium.
