The Spring Hill Lady Bears got back on the hardwood to open the 2017-18 basketball season in their return to the tournament play in the 2017 OBU Tip-Off Classic at Bill Vining Arena on the Ouachita Baptist University campus in Arkadelphia earlier this week.

The Spring Hill Lady Bears got back on the hardwood to open the 2017-18 basketball season in their return to the tournament play in the 2017 OBU Tip-Off Classic at Bill Vining Arena on the Ouachita Baptist University campus in Arkadelphia earlier this week.

The Lady Bears opened the season victorious over the Arkadelphia Lady Badgers 61-45, but fell short to the Prescott Lady Wolves 46-43 in the semifinals. The Lady Bears finished tournament play on Thursday night in Arkadelphia for the third place game against Star City. Next week, the Lady Bears will travel on the road Tuesday Nov. 14 against the Genoa Lady Dragons in Genoa.

For tournament action, in first round play the Lady Bears jumped out on Arkadelphia with a slim one point advantage 14-13 in first period action. In the second, the Lady Bears posted another 14 point scoring quarter and held Arkadelphia to eight. At halftime, the Lady Bears led the Lady Badgers 28-21 at halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Bears accounted 33 points with Arkadelphia 24 dropped on the scoreboard for third and fourth quarter scoring. As a result, the Lady Bears secured the 16 point win to advance to the semifinals. For the game, Lady Bears' Katie Rivera led scoring with 18 points and nailed three trey's and Christy Randle dropped 12 points for double-figures.

In the semifinals, the Lady Bears met up against a close town competitor of the Prescott Lady Wolves to showcase a Hempstead County vs. Nevada County battle in Arkadelphia. The Lady Bears sparked for the first quarter performance to lead Prescott 16-9. In the second, the Lady Wolves rallied back to post 11 points and the Lady Bears held to seven points scored. At halftime, the Lady Bears led Prescott, 23-20. In the second half, the Lady Bears maintain the edge to finish third quarter action leading Prescott 35-30. In the fourth, the Lady Wolves sparked with a run that led over to a three point win over the Lady Bears. Prescott outscored Spring Hill 16-8 in the fourth.

For the game, Lady Bears' Rivera led scoring with 11 points for double-figures. Randle and Graycee Barham each scored eight points apiece, Maleigh Moore had five points, Nika Carstens and Jessi Park each contributed four points apiece, Maegan Ward scored three points and Momoka Maeda chipped in two points.

For Prescott, Lacie Nolen finished with an impressive scoring performance to lead all scorers with 26 points for double-figures. Haleigh Wiley followed with six points only playing in the second half, Carly Vanhook added five points, Anna Byers scored three points, Abigail Dougan and Olivia Williams each finished with two points.
