The overall top-ranked team in Class 2A and unbeaten defending state champion Mt. Ida Lions made their presence known in a dominating fashion on the road to defeat the Spring Hill Bears 57-7 in their 7-2A Conference brawl at Bear Stadium Friday night.

The overall top-ranked team in Class 2A and unbeaten defending state champion Mt. Ida Lions made their presence known in a dominating fashion on the road to defeat the Spring Hill Bears 57-7 in their 7-2A Conference brawl at Bear Stadium Friday night.

The Lions showcased a high scoring night with their several weapons that produced on both sides of the ball against the Bears. Mt. Ida shot out to a convincingly 21-0 advantage to end first period action, but added 26 more points to their lead in the second quarter. At halftime, Mt. Ida led the Bears 47-7.

In the second half, the Bears kept a fighting spirit, but Mt. Ida held on and made one final end zone trip in the fourth quarter to secure another victory to remain unbeaten thus far improving to 6-0 overall, 3-0 in conference as the Bears fall to 1-2 in conf., 2-4 overall.

The Bears only held to one end zone trip against the tough Mt. Ida Lions, to prove defensively why they're the No. 1 ranked team in the state for Class 2A.

Next week, the Bears will head on the road to Mt. Pine for conference play. Kickoff set for 7 p.m.
