It was another tough night on the road for the hometown Hope Bobcats falling to a  talented team loaded with Division I caliber weapons of Class 4A Ashdown Panthers 46-7 Friday night for week two of high school gridiron action.

The Bobcats were unable to overcome a variety of D-I players of Ashdown that showcased their toughness to make big plays early in first half action.

Ashdown began their attack of scoring to take a 6-0 lead at the 8:06 mark from quarterback Jaden Hill (LSU commit for baseball) completing a 12-yard touchdown pass reception to D-I receiver Anthony Nelson. Hope would block Ashdown's PAT as the Cats look to answer back on their offensive opportunity. The Cats would go three and out on downs and forced to punt at the 6:20 mark in the first quarter. As Ashdown regain possession from their own 33 yard line, the Bobcat defense came alive big with Demariyae Jackson making the quarterback sack to cause loss of yardage for the Panthers and back them up to their own 37-yard line.

This caused the Panthers to punt, but a costly turnover on Hope's punt return allowed Ashdown to recover and regain possession at the 4:20 off the Bobcats. Ashdown would be stopped on their series of drives offensively by the Cats' defense to cause the Panthers to punt where Hope took over possession from their own 28 yard line at the 3:20 mark. Hope's quarterback Keith Brown picked up a key first down on the QB keeper to move the Cats to the 47-yard line. But an interception by Hope that was returned for a touchdown from Ashdown's Ladarrius Bishop (D-I recruit) put the Panthers up 13-0 with the PAT good. At the end of first quarter play, Hope trailed Ashdown, 13-0.

In the second, Ashdown would make five trips to the end zone with the Bobcats unable to score in the quarter. Ashdown scored touchdowns - 10:08 mark, 19-0; 6:04 mark 25-0 with QB Hill 38-yard pass reception to Bishop; 4:27 mark, 32-0 off fumble recovery by Bishop; 3:22 mark, 39-0 QB Hill 1-yard run on keeper; then final TD with 31 seconds QB Hill 28-yard pass reception to Shuntori Montue 46-0. At halftime, the Cats trailed Ashdown 46-0.

At the start of the third quarter, the clock ran continuously due to the sportsmanship rule in effect the entire second half. The Bobcats would keep the fight progressing with strong running drives on the ground by Kennan Green, Jaloni Davis and Jay Conway. Back up quarterback Hunter Hellums came in and completed a few first down pass receptions to Conway. Hellums also got a first down on the ground on a few QB keepers for yardage. Late in the fourth, Hope got on the board to avoid the shutout with Hellums completing a 36-yard touchdown pass reception to receiver Nikorian Muldrew at the 5:03 mark and PAT good by Jonathan Garcia to end the game with the final score 46-7.

The Bobcats fall to 0-2 overall with Ashdown remaining unbeaten at 2-0 thus far during the non-conference schedule. The Bobcats will finally make their season debut for home action this 2017 football season next Friday night hosting their other rivals defending Class 3A state champion Prescott Curley Wolves at Hammons Stadium. Kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
