Yerger Middle School eighth grade football team return to home gridiron action on the Bank of the Ozarks Field at Hammons Stadium Thursday night to host Camden for Hope's season home opener. YMS kept the contest close early, but Camden sparked in the second half to make four trips to the end zone and defeated Hope 39-12.
In first half action, Camden got on the board early for the game's first touchdown at the 4:03 mark with 2-point conversion successful to lead Hope 8-0, which was the score to end first quarter action. In the second, Keyuan Booker scored Hope's lone touchdown run at the 5:49 mark, with the 2-point conversion no good. Hope only had a two point deficit at halftime 8-6 to Camden. Defensively, Hope's Marquavious Monk and Javarious Solomon both had interceptions and Ladarious Allen recovered a fumble in second quarter play against Camden.
In the third quarter, Camden built a double-digit lead after scoring on a 36-yard touchdown run and the 2-point conversion good to give them a 10 point advantage over Hope 16-6 at the 4:58 mark. Camden capitalize once again later in the third to score from the 1-yard line at the 1:50 mark and converting the 2-point conversion to lead Hope 24-6.
Hope answered with a 60 yard touchdown run by Allen at the 1:35 mark to end third quarter play with Camden leading the hometown Cats 24-12 after three quarters of football action.
In the fourth, Hope maintain key stops defensively and drives offensively, but came up short to score. Camden accounted for two touchdown scores in the fourth to go onto a 27 point win.
Hope eighth grade football will return next Thursday night Sept. 14 to host Nashville for junior high action at Hammons Stadium. Kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
