Hope High School Bobcats and Ladycats tennis team members will begin their singles and doubles competition for season 2017.

Hope High School Bobcats and Ladycats tennis team members will begin their singles and doubles competition for season 2017. After weeks of preparation, HHS tennis players are scheduled to to host Nashville Monday Aug.14 in singles and doubles matches for their season-opener at Hope Fair Park.

Several members from last season will return to spark the tennis courts for singles and doubles matches in 2017.

Last year, seven members from Hope High School tennis program represented for singles and doubles matches at the 5A South Conference tournament at Hot Springs Lakeside High School courts. HHS tennis players' Kenia Green, Tristen Jones, Clarence Mayberry, Mayra Garcia, Cheyenne Naumann, Hanna McCorkle and Shelbie Godwin all competed as representatives of Hope to battle competitors from schools De Queen, Magnolia, White Hall, Camden-Fairview, Hot Springs and host school Hot Springs Lakeside.

For season 2016, HHS tennis featured lone senior (Kenia) Green. Hope tennis head coach Billy Rook appreciated the time, years and leadership Green provided during her Ladycat career on the courts representing Hope now a 2017 HHS graduate.

Coach Rook believed each of his tennis players all gave competitive efforts during matches and time in practice for preparations to compete last season. Since the tennis courts were being restructured and resurfacing at Hope Fair Park last year, Rook was very grateful to take his teams to practice in Prescott and looks forward to HHS returning to the tennis courts at Hope Fair Park for matches this 2017 season.

This season HHS tennis will host six home matches - Aug. 14 vs. Nashville, Aug. 21 vs. De Queen, Malvern, Aug. 29 vs. Magnolia, Sept. 5 vs. Camden-Fairview, Sept. 19 vs. Hot Springs and Sept. 28 vs. White Hall.

For road matches, Aug. 28 is the first scheduled date HHS tennis teams travel for competition against Arkansas High in Texarkana. Sept. 11, HHS travels to Nashville, then to Magnolia Sept.12 for back to back road trips.

The final road match of the regular season is scheduled Sept. 25 at Camden-Fairview. The 5A South Conference Tournament will be Oct. 9 hosted at Hot Springs Lakeside High School tennis courts. The Class 5A state tournament scheduled Oct. 16-17.
