The 2-time reigning Class 2A state champions Spring Hill Lady Bears debuted on the diamond for softball season 2017 victorious on the road in two shutout wins over the Dierks Lady Outlaws to begin their year of competition on the winning trail.

The 2-time reigning Class 2A state champions Spring Hill Lady Bears debuted on the diamond for softball season 2017 victorious on the road in two shutout wins over the Dierks Lady Outlaws to begin their year of competition on the winning trail.

Lady Bears' pitcher Kalyne Powell brought the heat from the pitcher's circle to record the win for both games as the winning pitcher and Kelsey Gammage homered against Dierks.

In the first game, the Lady Bears defeated Dierks 7-0. Powell pitched and didn't allow a single run, just two hits and struck out four batters. Powell earned the win for Spring Hill, pitching all five innings and threw 44 strikes.

An early lead helped propel the Lady Bears to victory. Spring Hill scored on a triple by Taylor Teague and a single by Maegan Ward in the first inning.

Spring Hill captured the lead in the first inning. With one out in the first inning, Teague drove in one run when she tripled.

Spring Hill scored four runs in the second inning. The Lady Bears big inning was driven by a single by Katie Rivera, a double by Teague, and a double by Ward.

Spring Hill totaled for eight hits with seven runs scored and no errors. Teague and Ward each collected multiple hits for Spring Hill, Ward and Teague each drove in two runs to lead the Lady Bears. Teague and Ward each had two RBI's, Rivera and Cheyenne Bobo each had one RBI apiece. Teague had three hits, Ward had two hits, Gammage, Rivera and Bobo each had a hit. Rivera, Teague each scored two runs, Gammage, Jada Quillin and Lakin Bobo each scored a run. Quillin also had a stolen base.

In the second game, the Lady Bears defeated Dierks 6-0 thanks to a strong start. Spring Hill scored on a single by Rivera and a triple by Jessi Park in the first inning.

Spring Hill secured the victory thanks to four runs in the first inning. The big inning was thanks to a single by Rivera and a triple by Park. With no outs in the first inning, Rivera drove in one run when she singled.

Powell earned the win for Spring Hill. She pitched four innings, allowing no runs, one hit, struck out five batters, walked one and threw 35 strikes

The Lady Bears totaled for eight hits in the game. Teague, Gammage, and Rivera each collected multiple hits for the Lady Bears. Rivera, Gammage, and Teague each managed two hits to lead Spring Hill at bat.

Gammage, River and Teague all had two hits apiece. Gammage stepped up with a home run, Park and Cheyenne Bobo each had a hit apiece. Gammage, Rivera, Teague and Park each had a RBI apiece, Ward collected two RBI's. Gammage also had a stolen base.

This weekend, the Lady Bears will compete as the host team in the 2017 Debra McMaster Memorial Scholarship Softball Tournament scheduled Mar. 16-18 in Hope. The Lady Bears will compete in the Gold bracket division and set to play Thursday night Mar. 16 against Glen Rose at 7:30 p.m. on Millennium Field at Fair Park. The tournament will progress through Saturday Mar. 18 with the scholarship presentations and championship games of each bracket division.
