Hope ninth grade boys junior high hoops squad gave another competitive effort and battle on the hardwood Thursday night falling to visiting De Queen Jr. Leopards 40-20 at Jones Field House Gymnasium.

Hope ninth grade boys junior high hoops squad gave another competitive effort and battle on the hardwood Thursday night falling to visiting De Queen Jr. Leopards 40-20 at Jones Field House Gymnasium. Hope caught themselves in a early deficit 10-3 to De Queen to end first quarter action. In the second, Hope rallied back to finish the period strong and cut their deficit to trail De Queen at halftime 15-9.

In the third quarter, Hope was held to three points scored as the Jr. Leopards sparked to post 13 points poured into the basket to take a 28-12 lead after three periods of action. In the fourth, Hope scored a strong eight points, but De Queen kept the momentum to score 12 points for a double-digit scoring result for all four quarters to roll to a 20 point win.

For the game, Zak Box and Mekhi Henderson led scoring with seven points apiece, Cavontae Young contributed six points for Hope.

This morning, Hope ninth grade boys junior high hoops squad were scheduled to continue basketball competition on the road in De Queen to compete in the Winter Invitational upper division level tournament. Due to inclement weather conditions, today's games have been cancelled. Hope's ninth grade boys squad were to tip-off against Nashville at 10:30 a.m. at the De Queen High School Gymnasium-Coliseum. The winter invitational junior high tournament is scheduled Jan. 7-14 hosted in De Queen.

This Monday Jan. 9, the ninth grade boys basketball team head to Camden with eighth and ninth grade girls teams for junior high hoops competition.
