Spring Hill Jr. Bears basketball team brought a competitive battle to the hardwood for home hoop action hosting Mineral Springs Jr. Hornets at Spring Hill Gymnasium for Friday night junior high  competition.

The Jr. Bears kept it a close match-up in first half action to have a six point deficit 13-7 after opening period action. Wesley Featherston converted a three-point play and sink his free-throw shot to give the Jr. Bears a 3-0 advantage at the 5:46 mark in first quarter action. Mineral Springs went on a run to take a 11-3 lead down to the 2:40 mark. Under a minute to play in opening period action, Featherston and Dawson Calhoun both sank two key free-throws apiece, but the Jr. Hornets knocked down a basket to increase their lead in the closing seconds in first quarter play.

In the second quarter, the Jr. Bears sank 11 points in the basket with Calhoun, Slade Cox and Bradey Powell all contributing to scoring for Spring Hill in the period. Mineral Springs added 10 points in the quarter to take a 23-18 lead at halftime over the Jr. Bears.

In the second half, the Jr. Bears were held to four points scored in the third with Mineral Springs adding accounting for another 10 point scoring quarter. The Jr. Bears took a 11 point deficit after three periods of action to Mineral Springs 33-22.

In the fourth period, the Jr. Bears sparked for a double-digit scoring quarter for 12 points poured into the basket. The Jr. Hornets continued their scoring spree of double-digits to knock down 14 points scored in the final quarter of play and went on to defeat the Jr. Bears 47-34.

For the game, Featherston led scoring with 15 points for double-figures. Calhoun added eight points, Powell finished with seven points and Cox contributed four points.
