The Hope Ladycats basketball team battled in competitive match-ups on the hardwood in New Boston, Texas in the 2016 Gunslinger Tournament scheduled Dec. 8-10. The Ladycats opened tournament play in a tough defeat against Liberty-Eylau 61-34, but topped host tourney team New Boston 56-51 in overtime and fell short to Arkansas High 48-33 in the final game of competition. The Ladycats finished tournament competition 1-2. This Friday night, the Ladycats will travel back on the road to battle Arkansas High in Texarkana for a three game stanza of junior varsity action, then the senior high girls and boys action taking place. Thus far, the Ladycats are 2-5 overall.

Ladycats 34, Liberty-Eylau 61
Opening tournament play against Liberty-Eylau, the Ladycats fell behind in first half. The Ladycats were held under double-digits in first and second quarter scoring. At halftime, Liberty-Eylau led the Ladycats 32-15. In the second half, the Ladycats totaled for 20 points as Liberty-Eylau dropped 29 points in the basket to defeat Hope in first round tourney action. For the game, Ladycats' Andria Curtis and Raley Potter led scoring with nine points apiece, Tatyanna Smith and Courtney Davis each added five points, Quiana Gulley scored four points and Tazharia Woodberry contributed two points.
Ladycats 56, New Boston 51 OT
For a thrilling down to the wire battle, the Ladycats rallied back from 27-22 halftime deficit to New Boston. In the second half, the Ladycats out-scored the Lady Lions 27-22 to secure overtime action with the game knotted at 49-49 at the end of regulation. In overtime, the Ladycats stepped up and knocked down seven key points and defensively held the Lady Lions to two points scored for Hope to march onto a five point win and defeating New Boston for the second time this season. For the game, Courtney Davis led scoring with 15 points, Gulley followed with 13 points, Potter added 11 points, Curtis finished with eight points, Smith scored four points, Woodberry had three points and Jaleia Davis adding two points.
Ladycats 33, Arkansas High 48
In the finale tourney game of competition, the Ladycats matched-up against the Arkansas High Lady Razorbacks in the final day tournament action. The Ladycats stayed close in first quarter play, but Arkansas High out-scored Hope in the second quarter. At halftime, Arkansas High led the Ladycats 23-17. In the second half, the Ladycats totaled for 16 points with the Lady Razorbacks pouring 25 points in the basket for the third and fourth quarter total points scored to defeat Hope. For the game, Ladycats' Courtney Davis led scoring with 15 points, Potter finished with 13 points for double-figures. Jaleia Davis added three points and KeAzha Roberts had two points.
