Blevins Hornets and Lady Hornets hoopsters had tough and competitive match-ups on the road this past weekend in their non-conference bout against Cossatot River Eagles and Lady Eagles for junior and senior high basketball action.

The Lady Hornets had their unbeaten streak snapped and fell to the Lady Eagles 62-45 for their first season loss. The Lady Eagles took a 33-10 advantage over Blevins at halftime. In the third quarter, the Lady Hornets out-scored Cossatot River 16-9 with Blevins trailing 42-26 with a 16 point deficit heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Hornets posted their best scoring quarter of the game in the fourth to score 19 points, but the Lady Eagles sparked for 20 points through the basket in final period to take a 17 point win over the visiting Lady Hornets.

In the featured nightcap battle, the Hornets and the Cossatot Eagles went to the distance in their game. The Hornets fought a hard fight, but the Eagles took advantage of the home-court to edge Blevins 51-48. In first half action, the Hornets were held to four points scored in opening period play, but sparked for 17 points in the second. The Eagles knocked down eight points in the first and added 15 in the second to lead the Hornets 23-21 at halftime.

In the second half, the Hornets and the Eagles were very tight and close scoring wise. The Eagles out-scored the Hornets 17-16 in the third, and both teams matched each other pouring 11 points apiece in the fourth and final period of action. The Hornets would suffer a tough three-point defeat and snapped their four-game winning streak.

For the game, Hornets' Deandre Burton led scoring with 13 points, Zane Kirkham scored 12 points and Bailey Lee had 11 points for a trio of double-figures.

On Tuesday night, the Hornets and Lady Hornets traveled to face Trinity Christian for junior and senior high hoops. This Thursday, Blevins hoops teams return home to reunite with their basketball rivals' Bradley to conclude their season meeting match-up at the Imon G. Brown Gymnasium. The Lady Hornets won big over Bradley in the first meeting on Oct. 21, but the Hornets came up short to the Bradley Bears in their game. The Lady Hornets look for the season meeting sweep as the Hornet seek revenge for a split. The Jr. Lady Hornets will begin Thursday night's three-game stanza at 5:30 p.m. in Blevins.
