HOPE--Melinda Pearl Armstrong Prater, 64, of Hope, died Thursday, August 20, 2009, at a local hospital. She was born February 26, 1945, in Prescott. She was a member of Mt. Zion CME Church, where she served as the Junior Usher president and was a member of the Stewardess Board. She graduated from Blevins High School and was employed at Meyers Bakery for 15 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joshua; two sons, Joshua Jr., and Joseph Prater; one sister, Jessie Mae Jones, and two brothers, Edward Armstrong and Charles William Armstrong.
Survivors include two sons, John Alvin Prater and Kelvin Douglas Prater, both of Hope; two daughters, Wanda (Kent) Henderson, of Hope, and Kristi (Victor) McGough, of Waldo; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Sara Heyward, of Hope; two brothers, Lesly (Cereitha), of Kansas City, Mo. and Frank (Ellen) Armstrong, of Seattle, Wash., and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 29, at Mt. Zion CME Church in Hope. Burial will be at Cave Hill No. 2 Cemetery in Hope, with arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc. of Hope.
