Edward “Ed” Chism, 88, of Gurdon, formerly of Hope, died Friday, January 15, 2010, in Twin Rivers Rehab, in Arkadelphia. He was born April 10, 1921, in Wortham, Texas, to Dee and Bertha Chism. While living in Hope for many years, he was a self-employed contractor before retiring and moving to Gurdon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Chism; his parents; one sister, Estelle Burkhart, and one grandson, Darrel Clark.
Survivors include his daughters, Sandra Clark, of Allen, Texas, Carolyn (Mike) Gibbons, of Indianapolis, Ind., Libby (Jerel) White, of Gurdon, Diana (David) Nix, of Star City, and Rooney (Tommy) Chu, of Little Rock; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visistation was held Sunday, January 17, from 3-5 p.m. at Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home. Services were held Monday, January 18, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Interment followed at Snell Cemetery under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.
