HOPE--Harry Phillips, 91, of Hope, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at his home. He was born in Shover Springs on October 6, 1917, and was a retired self-employed businessman, having owned and operated Harry’s Pawn Shop and Harry Phillip’s Used Cars, both in Hope.
He was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Hope; an Army veteran of World War II; past president of the Hope Lions Club, and former member of the Hope/Hempstead County School Board. He was preceded in death by his parents; by one son, James Alan Phillips, who died in 2004, and by two brothers, Taylor and Wallace Phillips.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, June Cox Phillips; one son, Ronnie Phillips and Jeanne; one granddaughter, Mandy Bright and Charley, and one great-granddaughter, Mazie Bright, all of Hope; one sister, Mary Sue Huckabee, of Rogers; one nephew, Don Phillips,  of Hope; and three nieces, Joan Fuller and Mike, Patsy Spiller and Paul, and Carolyn Seville and David, all of Houston, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hope, with the Rev. Glenn Tropp officiating. Burial will follow and arrangements are by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope. Family will receive friends on Monday, June 29, from 6-8 p.m., at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
