Dr. Forney Holt
TEXARKANA – Forney G. Holt, M.D., 97, of Texarkana, formerly of Hope, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Christus St. Michael Hospital, in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born June 26, 1913, in Bingen, to Earl and Maggie Goodwin Holt. He was an Army veteran, having served in both World War II and Korea.
He was a former principal and high school math teacher in the Hope Public Schools. He was a former member of the Hope School Board and the Missions Board in Little Rock, and a member of First Baptist Church in Hope.
He received his masters degree in chemistry, and his Medical Doctorate from the University ofArkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
He was the former owner/operator of Hope Clinic in Hope, and he taught medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, and at theformer Southern Clinic in Texarkana before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Kathleen Downs Holt, in 2001; two brothers, Edwin Holt and Oscar Holt; one sister, Mary Gilbert; and one nephew, Robert Edward Hamilton.
His survivors include his wife, Helen K. Rateliff Holt, of Texarkana,; four sons: Tommy Holt, of Atlanta, Ga.,Charles Rateliff and Brenda, of Bentonville, Ronnie Rateliff, of Bella Vista, and Danny Rateliff and Rachelle, of Texarkana, Texas; one daughter, Sharon Hicks, of Texarkana, Texas; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at the First Baptist Church in Hope, with Rev. Mark Fischer and Dr. Lowell Harris officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hope, with arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home in Hope.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 24, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home in Hope.
