Sam Watson, 80, of Arkadelphia, died Saturday, January 30, 2010, in Jonesboro. He was born September 18, 1929 in Nashville to W. F. and Janie Hatch Watson. He was the owner of Phillips Drug Store, former mayor of Arkadelphia, and long time member of Baring Cross Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby Watson; five brothers, and three sisters.
Survivors include one son, Sam Watson, Jr., and his wife Sandy, of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Clark Watson, of Little Rock and Elizabeth Watson, of Jonesboro; one brother, Robert C. Watson and his wife Olinda, of Magnolia; two sisters-in-law, Johnie Bryan, of Hope, and Shirley Huckabee, of Texarkana and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, at Baring Cross Missionary Baptist Church in Arkadelphia with Brother Ronnie Hardin officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Ruggles Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
