Bobbie M. Gentry, 82, of Mt. Morris, Mich., was called home by the Lord on Thursday, December 31, 2009, at a Michigan hospital. She was born August 2, 1927, in Okolona, the daughter of Sam and Minnie Matlock. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Gospel Chorus and retired from Hurley Medical Center in 1987, after 19 years of service. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, gardening, fishing, basketball, especially the Detroit Pistons, family gatherings, and collecting hats. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Herbert C. Gentry, and her parents.
Survivors include four daughters, Bobie Rison, Shirley Gentry-Oden, Esther Gentry-Thompson, and Kim (Jimmy) Etheridge; two sons, Billy and Eric Gentry; nine grandchildren, Monica Mitchell, Gerald Brown, Yvette Anderson, Shanette, Eric, Jr., and Gionna Gentry, Aleisha Oden, Darias Thompson, and Marcus Etheridge; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Linnell (Noble) Jones; one sister-in-law, Etta Jones; one brother-in-law, Henry Gentry, and many other relatives and friends, including Mattie Furlow, the Lewis Sanders and Prime families, and her Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church family.
The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren Regional Medical Center staff. Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, at Harrison Chapel Church in Delight. Burial will be in Harrison Chapel Cemetery in Delight. Arrangements are by Brazzel/Cornish The Funeral Home, Prescott.
