A fiery crash sent emergency workers scrambling yesterday afternoon at approximately 3:55 p.m. near the intersection of Hwy. 73, W. and County Road 15, and resulted in two deaths of area residents.

According to a preliminary fatal crash summary from Arkansas State Police, a 1988 Ford Pickup was traveling south on County Road 15 and a 1984 Peterbilt, driven by Thomas E. Thompson, 75, of Hope, was traveling north.

The pickup entered into the north bound lane and hit the Peterbilt head on, bursting into flames. The pickup’s occupants included Warren Cody King, 18, of Fulton, Sharona Sutton, 15, of Hope, and Katrina Sutton, 13, of Hope.

Sharona Sutton was pulled from the wreckage, but King and Katrina Sutton were unable to get out of the pickup, according to James Singleton, Chief Deputy for the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Coroner for Hempstead County Ben L. Brazzel pronounced the two victims deceased at the scene.

Pafford Ambulance Service transported Thompson to Medical Park Hospital, although Medical Park had no record of him being admitted. Life Flight transported Sharona Sutton to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, La., according to the state police report.

Sharona Sutton is listed in critical condition, according to LSU.
