Register to win a free cruise to Jamaica at another Guns-N-Hoses Blood Drive scheduled for Dec, 9 at the Hope Fair Park Community Center from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
United Blood Services Coordinator Karina Holcombe said the Hope community has been outstanding in participation of blood drives leading the Hope Police, the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Department and the Hope Fire Department to sponsor another local effort to collect needed blood donations.
“A lot of people turn us down this time of year, but Hope was very nice to agree to help. We appreciate it so much,” Holcombe said.
Holcombe said more blood supply is needed at this time of year because many people schedule surgeries when they may be off work or on Christmas vacation.
T-shirts and a chance to win a seven-day cruise for two on the Carnival Conquest to Jamaica, Cayman Islands, and Mexico will be given to those who donate until Dec. 31, according to Holcombe.
Sixteen year-olds can donate this year, but there are height and weight restrictions. High-blood pressure and diabetic patients may also donate, according to Holcombe. Taking medication does not prevent donation, but UBS should know what medication is being taken.
“Many people may not have money for Christmas this year, but they can give the gift of life and it does not cost a penny,” Holcombe said.
The goal is sixty units.
